Description:

Participants in this interactive, keynote session will:

1) Examine the key role that creativity plays in language teaching and learning

2) Explore effective pedagogical strategies for integrating the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines, brain-based learning, the cultural triangle, the Common Core Standards for Literacy & Math, and the ACTFL 21st Century Skills Map

3) Participate in a variety of standards-based classroom activities that engage language learners in developing 21st Century literacies and target language proficiency.


Objectives:

I can . . .

  • Define creativity.
  • Assess my individual and professional creativity.
  • Explain common characteristics and conditions of creativity.
  • Use pedagogical implications of creativity, 21st Century skills, and flow theory to strengthen language proficiency


Guiding Questions:

  • What do we mean by creativity (individually, professionally, societally, culturally) and what conditions support it?
  • Why is creativity a fundamental element of 21st Century learning?
  • How might the relationship between creativity & SLA inform the design of compelling language learning environments and experiences?
